The return of another school year reminds us once again that fashion is a big part of the annual event. Trends are promoted by the manufacturers, but the kids from preschool on up are tuned into what is hip and chic. The very nature of fashion is that it changes.

Much of what inspires kids and baby fashion is rooted in the inspiration for adult fashion; European fashions, Asian fashions, Hollywood and better-known designers. It also derives kid-specific influence from current pop stars. Whenever there are younger kids in the Whitehouse, that can serve as a catalyst for kids fashion trends also.

Hollywood inspired fashions

On the topic of Hollywood's influence on kid's fashion, Parents Magazine did a piece that cited some specific examples. Their fashion examples included the ballerina shoes worn by Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes daughter Suri. The $230 price tag may put a few parents off though. They also report that Cate Blanchett's son Dashiell wears a Darth Vader for President tee-shirt, perfect for Star Wars junkies. They even featured tiny flower hair clips worn by Jason Priestley's daughter Ava.

One fashion item that is not always thought of as a fashion accessory is backpacks. Today, backpacks make a fashion statement as much as clothing does. Parents Magazine found that dinosaur backpacks were very in currently, as well as cute animal and bug backpacks, striped and dotted versions and DIY backpacks

Eco-friendly clothing has caught on also and some items that got honorable mention by Parents included hemp and recycled materials infant shoes and baby bodysuits constructed of organic materials. If the baby and kid fashions in England have the same influence that styles did during the Beatles era, then the organic styles are very big there already. This is likely to be a trend that continues through several future fashion seasons.

Fashion repeats

Some fall fashions that are considered 'in' this year sound suspiciously like past trends. Layered tee-shirts and camouflage fashions for boys and half sleeve shirts and animal prints for girls. These fashions seem to be hold-over's, but what's really popular can survive from one fashion season to another.

It's interesting that one of the looks this fall for toddler girls is a sporty college look. Who would have thought? Shiny jackets and checked skirts also compete as fashion statements. The girls also are into the swing look in earthy colors. Baggy, loose tops and jeans or Capri's round out the look.

Cardigans and hooded sweatshirts are among the fashion must-haves for toddler boys. Both groups can wear knitted scarves to complete the style. The colder weather trend for the girls will be layers of knitwear. What happened to coats? Thick knit mittens will also be a hit with the girls.

With the rise in popularity of Japanese Korean dramas in recent years, the spillover effect of such popularity to Japanese and Korean fashion is evident. As the Japan Korean peninsulas are two big powerhouse of Asian fashion, the latter is usually represented by these two styles. If the clothes are modeled by Chinese model, you should be aware that the source of origin of their clothing is most probably from China/Taiwan or Hong Kong and most of these designs are knock-offs. From experience (I do shop online a lot and from everywhere), the clothing I've received from these places are usually made from low grade material or poor workmanship and most of the time they look nowhere near the pretty pictures.

#2 - When your clothes arrive wet or comes with a weird smell
When your highly-anticipated fashion pieces reach you in wet condition or comes with a weird smell, your gut feeling is probably right - you have just got yourself something from a knock-off sweat shop. Most of these shops are only concerned with quantity so it is not surprising that some pieces might be wet or has a weird smell (due to the sweat shop conditions) because they do not have the budget or need for 'quality control'.

#3 - Printing errors on the clothing designs, clothing label or clothing tag
If there are spelling errors, it is highly likely to be a knock-off as they do not have the budget for 'quality control' and most of the time, the manufacturers may not even know what they are printing hence they are unable to spot the error.

#4 - Buying Korean fashion pieces from website ending with '.cn'
If you are based outside of Korea or do not know the language, it can be a daunting task to purchase Korean fashion online as most Korean websites are in Korean. However, with the rise of internet and online shopping, there are lots of websites in English that sells Korean fashion. If the website ends with a '.cn', it is highly likely that the piece you bought is a knock-off.

#5 - Look at the price and think rational
If the prices seem too good to be true, then most likely it is the case. Knock-offs compete with the real stuff by the price. Since the quality can't be better, the sole advantage they have is in pricing as their cost of production is lower. Do not hold your expectations too high if you are prepared to buy knock-offs though, since it is a fraction of the price, the quality will be discounted too.

A deformed toenail is always a disturbing embarrassment, although it is usually much more obvious to the person who has it than it is to others. Sometimes an ugly toenail can be treated and restored to its former appearance. Sometimes the damage is permanent and the nail will continue to grow abnormally forever.

The most common cause of a deformed toenail is fungal infection. Fungal toenail infections are extremely common in many parts of the world. They are also difficult to treat. Fungal infection of toenails, hair, and skin, are different from other types of superficial infections that people get because the fungi are growing on dead tissue. Fingernails, toenails, hair, and the outer layer of human skin are not composed of living cells - they have no nerve endings, no blood supply, and no cellular immunity to invading microorganisms. Fungi live on them, breaking down keratin, a protein, for nutrients.

An advanced fungal infection often results in a deformed toenail - a thick, flaky, crumbly toenail with an odd yellow, brown, or black color. Toenails are particularly difficult to treat because they are so thick and tough; however, if treated continuously over a long period of time, with an effective toenail fungus remedy, the infection can be overcome. A variety of treatments are available for this - the best topical ones are designed to penetrate the nail and make contact with the fungus, and should be accompanied by manual filing to wear down the layers of the deformed toenail.

The mammoth crocs are definitely one of the coziest shoes I have ever worn. I generally do not wear shoes around the house at all, but have found that the mammoth's are so comfortable that they are like wearing slippers that don't make you slip - and the plus side is you can run errands in them and feel like you have your house shoes on the whole time.

I bought the purple pair with the black linking for both me and my daughter. They are the Hannah Montana shoes, and I know I am much too old for that, but it is kinda fun being able to match. A second reason I bought the purple/black combo. was that I've seen how dirty the white linings get on other people and it didn't look too great.

I have washed the linings on both pairs once and hung them up to dry. If you do wash them, do not dry them or it will make the lining become worn out much quicker and not feel or look as nice.

Taking the liners out the first time is rather difficult. I have heard that you can take the button off, but mine sure didn't want to do that, so I had to take it off much as you would a button that was just too big for the hole, but the rubber part underneath stretches really well and once you get them off the first time they seem to be much easier to work with.

If your feet get hot easily, these are probably not the best shoes for you. They tend to get very warm, which is great for the winter months, but I definitely couldn't see wearing them in the summer (I suppose you could remove the liner after winter, but I really don't think they would feel right since they aren't technically made for that, as they do not have the typical strap that most Crocs have).

Crocs are definitely worth the investment as they seem to never wear out, and being able to have a pair for winter makes it even better. Just be aware that the white or pink linings might have a tendency to get dirty fast and think that through thoroughly before purchasing them.

Shop Like A Pro

Dressing well doesn't mean that you have to suffer through long hours of shopping only to return home with nothing to wear. Nor does it mean that you have to spend loads and loads of money. If the thought of shopping overwhelms you, relax, and let me give you a few of my secrets to shopping like a pro.

First things first - Make a plan! Always know what you need to purchase before going shopping. Keep an ongoing list in or near your closet so when you come across something that you need but don't have, you'll be able to jot it down. Clothing shopping without a list is like going grocery shopping when you are hungry. You will always end up with something you don't need!

Think about what you should wear to go shopping - It's best to wear something that is comfortable and easy to get in and out of because it is never a good idea o buy a piece of clothing without trying it on first. You never know if it looks best on the hanger or on you. And, when choosing the outfit you will wear to go shopping, don't forget about shoes! After all, you will be doing a lot of walking. It is also a good idea to steer clear of a lot of distracting jewelry.

Now that we have discussed the two most important tips that will prepare you for shopping, let's move on to the shopping experience itself. Below you will find tips from everything from the best times of the day to shop to what to splurge on and what to save on.

1. The best times of the day to go shopping is when the mall or boutique is at its slowest - such as weekday mornings. If you must go on a weekend, try to get to the store when it opens.

2. Get to know the salespeople at your favorite boutiques. They will call you when your size or style of clothing comes in. You may get first "dibs" on the most popular items.

3. Invest in classic pieces. Don't feel guilty for investing in a timeless purse, shoes, LBD (little black dress), or a versatile suit.

4. Steer clear of sales racks if you are a sucker! You will more than likely be swayed by the discounted price and end up buying something you don't need and possibly will never wear. Many stores have a "No Return" policy on reduced items. So, play it safe.

5. Believe in fate...if you spot something that you absolutely love and can't stop thinking about it for days afterwards, it may be a sign that you need to go back to the store and try it on!

6. Don't be afraid to try new things! This is one rule I stress to all of my clients. Try something on before you rule it out completely.

7. Look for well-made clothing. In many instances, you can buy clothes that are both well made and reasonably priced. But be careful - look for unfinished hems, loose threads, and mismatched patterns. If you spot any of these things...move along.

8. Look for the latest trends in accessories such as purses, necklaces, and shoes. You will be able to incorporate the latest trend into your existing wardrobe without looking like a fashion victim.

Shopping like a pro doesn't have to be difficult or overwhelming. It's fun and rewarding! Just think of all of the great purchases you will make if you incorporate good shopping practices into every trip to the mall or your favorite boutique.

Beating the Summer Heat!

Summer is full of exciting adventures and milestones for children such as their first visit to the beach, learning to swim at the local pool, and making friends at the mall fountain! However some of these events can be overshadowed by the excessive heat that keeps most of us locked in doors with the air conditioning running full blast! Be ahead of your game this summer with some sun and heat protection that will make battling the summer rays no sweat!

IN THE CAR

It is always best to get a sunshade for your rear windows even if they are tinted, this will help to reduce the light that enters the car and can warm car seats and small metal buckles that children can get burnt on. These are the most comfortable shoes I own. If I could, I'd wear them all day, every day. Most flip flops require some time to break-in, but these are comfortable immediately. I've even washed them in the washing machine with bleach due to unfortunate dog poop incident and they came out perfect. I've tried other Reef shoes and they are all okay, but these are the ones I keep going back to year after year.

I am a big fan of crocs and each member of my family has many pairs.
These sandals did not meet the usual high standards. Within 3 minutes the middle section between the toes came out. I had to glue it in as there was no sign it had been glued at any time. It was annoying as we were out for the day when it came apart.
I will continue to purchase crocs and do love them. Just an oversight in the factory with this pair

The instant I slipped my foot into these I knew they were just right. A bit expensive for a plastic "flip flop," but they turned out to be more than worth it. I didn't expect the material to hold up, but after two years of constant use in Florida the only wear is to the sole. So it's time to buy another pair. Trouble is, they make so many styles now I can't decide which.

Some have reported getting these caught in escalators. In my opinion that's, well, a croc. The front curls upward and is pretty thick, so I cannot imagine how anyone can get these caught in an escalator. But that's just my opinion.

These do have the same great material as original crocs, but they don't have the same arch support. That's always important to me, because I have high arches. But I have no problem with the shock absorbency, which these have plenty of.

These are the most comfortable shoes EVER. I wear them everywhere. They hold up really well and are wonderful for after a workout and into the public shower. It is so sad that Crocs is going out of business. These are great shoes. I stocked up and bought several pairs!

I was really disspointed since I ordered a scutes version of the Crocs and it is clear in the picture but they sent me a slip-on which is completely different. They should have told me before, so now, I will still have to go to the option of returning it. It is really a hastle!

My 5 y/o son loves these shoes. He has had the same color (black and green) and style for 3 years now! By the end of 2 years, these are pretty worn out and usually the center piece in between the toes ends up breaking - usually after getting his shoe caught on something and he tugs on it with his foot and the center piece breaks. We've gone through 2 pair already, but when they break, they are very worn out (each has lasted about 1.5yrs and that's pretty good for kids shoes)! They don't slip off of his foot as the heel strap keeps them in place. They're great for getting wet, they clean up well and have pretty good traction. He lives in these all summer and fall until it's too cold to wear them! This price on Amazon is amazing! Stock up!

I love these sandals but as other reviewers have indicated, they run quite big. I had to return them at my cost and buy a new pair. I think other shoe buying websites have information about whether shoes are true to size or not. That would be very helpful in this case.

Even when my daughter has run on concrete, through dirt, rode her bike, all I have to do is simply put the sandal under the faucet and they rinse right off.
